Stepping up to protect our local areas

At a time when the environment is becoming an ever more pressing issue around the world, Safran people are stepping up to take part in specific actions. These are fully in line with one of the pillars of the Group’s CSR strategy: sustainably engage with our local communities and contribute to their development.

In 2022, two operations took place in the United Arab Emirates. In May, Safran Aerosystems Middle East (Dubai) organized a cleanup in a mangrove forest near Abu Dhabi. This major wetland ecosystem helps protect the reproduction of certain marine species in the region. It also captures 10 to 100 times more CO2 than the more typical forests found on land. No less than 40 kg (almost 90 lb) of garbage was collected. Over the weekend of December 10 and 11, some 45 Safran people and their families picked up 20 kg of trash in two hours on Dubai’s public beach. This community action by staff from all Safran subsidiaries in the UAE in their free time was a resounding success. Two more cleanups are already planned for next winter: one in the mountains, the other in the desert. A great way to raise awareness of the crucial importance of the environment in a part of the world already hard hit by the effects of global warming.

From Malaysia to Mexico

On October 22, 2022, the Safran Landing Systems facility in Sendayan, Malaysia, organized an original initiative combining a walk and cleanup on a beach at Tanjung Tuan Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan state. Almost 120 volunteers from the facility took part. Hiking trail and beach cleanup operations were also an integral part of the program for a CSR week in 2022. A chance to help the environment, connect with nature and enjoy a bit of relaxation.

In Mexico, the Garbage Challenge 2022 on May 15 involved cleaning up a section of the Río El Arenal biological corridor in Santa Rosa Jáuregui, one of the boroughs of Querétaro. This biodiversity space is an important roosting site for migrating monarch butterflies. With the support of the Polytechnic University of Santa Rosa Jáuregui and volunteers from Safran Aero Composites Mexico, nearly 1.5 metric tons of trash was collected. To meet this challenge, no fewer than 130 guests took part. A real success.

All in all, fantastic collective efforts to preserve the environment!
