NEW “LOW CARBON” CATEGORY IN THE SAFRAN INNOVATION AWARDS

The annual Safran Innovation Awards ceremony was held in November to honor the winners of this employee-driven innovation program, which is open to everyone who works for the Group. Hosted as a digital event this year, the ceremony presented the 24 short-listed teams and the winners in the seven categories, selected by members of the Safran Executive Committee.

T

his year’s program featured two new categories: Digital Transformation and Low Carbon, reflecting Safran’s strategic priorities and the importance of rewarding teams that make a tangible contribution to reducing our environmental footprint.

For all other categories (except In-field Experience, decided by an employee vote), the winners were picked on the basis of two selection stages: a preliminary selection of three teams in each category, followed by pitches to the Safran Executive Committee in early November. The Low Carbon selection panel was composed of Jean-Michel Hillion, Vice President, Strategy, Thibaud Normand, Vice President Climate, Stéphane Cueille, CEO of Safran Electrical & Power, Sandrine Holler, Vice President, Programs, and Vincent Caro, CEO of Safran Nacelles

And the winning team in the Low Carbon category is…

E-NERGY. Developed by a team from Safran Seats, this innovative solution employs smart meters connected to a cloud-based dashboard to measure electricity consumption and CO2 in real time. An integrated energy management solution enables sites to remotely control lighting, compressors, extractors and heat pumps (used for air conditioning). Six months after deployment of E-NERGY at Safran Seats’ Dalit site in Tunisia, it had already saved 1,000 metric tons of CO2. Next to benefit from the E-NERGY solution will be Chihuahua, Mexico, and the Issoudun and Saint-Crépin sites in France. Well done to the winning team!

In his closing remarks, Safran CEO Olivier Andriès noted the wealth of ideas put forward: “I’m very pleased with the number and quality of projects submitted for our 2021 Innovation Awards. We received 108 candidate projects, which clearly illustrates the strong employee-driven innovation trend across all our companies, despite the difficult context. This trend is driven by the dynamic engagement of our teams worldwide, who understand that their projects could well inspire others. And that’s why the Innovation Awards are a key event, year after year. By spotlighting our innovations, we foster even greater sharing and cross-fertilization within Safran.”
